Device Details

Introduction​

As soon as Resolve Insights discovers a new device, collects information about it, and categorizes it, the device appears as a row entry in the Inventory, where we display basic information about each device for easy searching, filtering, grouping, and working with lists of devices.

For each device, Insights also collects detailed information that can be viewed by selecting a device from the Inventory > Devices table and clicking on the Details (info) icon at the end of the device row. The Device Details window appears, and the information in it depends on the device type, subtype, and the collected data.

Basic Information​

For each device, we are showing basic information on the left side of the Device Details window, such as Organization, Site, Device ID, Host Name, IP Address, IPv6 Address, Discovered IPs, FQDN, Domain Name, VM Name, Device Type, Device Sub Type, Parents Name, Services, Roles, Vendor, Model, Platform, Platform Type, Version, Serial Number, Managers, Reachability List, Is Virtual, SCOM Discovered, Address, Device Location, Sys Location, Source, Last Update Time, and Last Discovered Time.

The Last Update Time and Last Discovered Time values may differ because Insights can regularly discover the device, but nothing in the properties or configuration of the device has changed.

Tabs​

In addition to the basic information, we collect details for each device, grouped in separate tabs. Some of the tabs are static for all devices, and others are specific for a given device type. If Insights could not collect specific information for a specific device type, the content of the corresponding tab in the device details is empty.

Static tabs​

  • Custom Columns - Shows a structured table with the custom column names and their values for the device.
  • Notes - Shows a list of notes for the device with the date and time of the note creation, and the note body.
  • Schedule - Shows a structured table with all (Network and Flow) discoveries in which the device is included, and an action to see discovery details
  • Interface (for Compute, Network, and Controller devices) - Shows a structured table with all discovered interfaces of the device with the interface names, IPs, physical addresses, etc.
  • Services (for Compute devices except Hypervisors) - Shows a structured table with all running services, and their classification as per the service configuration, the process name, and the associated CMDB ID, if applicable. The service list is built and updated by the service flow discovery.
  • Datastore (for VMs and Hypervisors devices) - Shows a list of attached data store partitions with detailed information for a set of storage properties such as type, name, ID, used space, disk name, etc.
  • Applications (for Compute and Network devices) - Shows cards with application names to which the device is linked. The cards are direct links to the application page.
  • Detail (for Compute, Network, and Controller devices) - Shows an unstructured property-value list of discovered physical and logical details of the device. The set of properties varies based on the device type and collected data.
  • Flows (for Compute device except Hypervisors) - Shows a structured table with all discovered flows from and to this device with details about the services, ports, statuses, etc. The service flow information is collected during the service flow discovery.
  • Datastore Info (for Datastore devices) - Shows a structured table with details about the datastore, such as type, name, ID, used space, disk name, capacity, etc.
  • Storage Device Info (for Hypervisor devices) - Shows a structured table with details about the storage device information attached to the hypervisor.
  • Storage Adaptor Info (for Hypervisor devices) - Shows a structured table with details about the storage adaptor information attached to the hypervisor.
  • Storage (for Storage devices) - Shows an accordion list of storage devices, each with a property-value structured table, attached to the device.
  • StoragePool (for Storage devices) - Shows an accordion list of storage pools, each with a property-value structured table, attached to the device.
  • Controller (for Storage devices) - Shows an accordion list of controllers, each with a property-value structured table, attached to the device.
  • LUN (for Storage devices) - Shows an accordion list of luns, each with an unstructured property-value list of details, attached to the device.
  • Port (for Storage devices) - Shows an accordion list of ports, each with an unstructured property-value list of details, attached to the device.
  • Aggregate (for Volume devices) - Shows an accordion list of aggregations, each with an unstructured property-value list of details, attached to the device.
  • Volume (for Aggregate devices) - Shows an accordion list of volumes, each with an unstructured property-value list of details, attached to the device.
